Bishop M.R. Lunsford
The late Bishop Michael R. Lunsford oversaw Antioch Church, headquartered in Taunton, Massachusetts, and presided over Antioch Ministerial Communion and Antioch Episcopal Communion. He has been the senior pastor of this church since 1983. To date, he is the most senior tenured pastor in the city of Taunton. He has pioneered several vital and growing churches in the city of Port Limon, Costa Rica, Guatemala City, Guatemala, Providence, RI, and New Bedford, MA.
Bishop Lunsford received the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior in Denver, CO in 1976. Upon returning to
his native New York City, he first realized the call of God upon his life for ministry and began
preparing himself. His mentors included the late Pastor Gunnar Jacobsen, the late Dr. Leonard Heroo,
the late Bishop Gerald J. Kaufman, and the late Archbishop Wilbert S. McKinley.
Bishop Lunsford was a graduate of Zion Bible Institute and Southwestern Assemblies of God College,
where he and his wife, Sharon, received their undergraduate degrees. He went on to earn a Masters in
Art and his Doctorate of Theology from Evangelical Theological Seminary. He also earned a Doctorate
of Ministry from United Theological Seminary and the Robert Schuller School of Preaching.
In 2004 Bishop Lunsford was consecrated to the sacred office of Bishop after Apostolic Succession by
the late Archbishop Wilbert S. McKinley, of Brooklyn, NY.
Among his other accomplishments, Bishop Lunsford organized Taunton’s largest food pantry, T.L.C.
(The Lord Cares). It operated for approximately 15 years. He founded the Northeast School of
Ministry, an accredited Bible college. Bishop Lunsford was involved in many community organizations
including Mayor Nunes Task Force, DMH Community Board, Community Counseling of Bristol
County, and Greater Taunton Clergy Association.
Bishop Lunsford was the first Protestant Chaplain at the former Southeast Correctional Center in
Bridgewater, MA. He was also a board member of Barnabas Ministries, Youth Challenge Ministries,
and Love Gospel Ministerial Fellowship.
Bishop Lunsford had a passion to raise up and mentor pastors to impact the world for Jesus Christ. He
is a gifted teacher and preacher of God’s Word. He is loved by both the young and old. He has a
masterful way of presenting the Gospel in a manner that can be understood by all. He is a leader among
his peers, and his wisdom and counsel is often sought by many.
